"A Network Cable has been Disconnected" (or unplugged)

I see many posts about this issue but found nothing regarding resolution of the problem. Hope someone can help.

On my XPS Gen2, when things are otherwise working normally, I sometimes see these balloon popups, indicating the network is somehow disconnected ... I don't think much of them usually, the system recovers and is online again almost instantaneously.

I had some problems with Internet/LAN connectivity this AM which led me to check the Event Viewer and I saw many, many events where these disconnects occurred. Sometimes several per day; sometimes a few days between disconnects. I can post the event log details if need be.

I am running XP Pro SP1 and my XPS has Gigabit LAN. I have it "forced" to 100mbs Full Duplex via adapter properties. That seemed to help initially but now I'm not so sure.

I am connecting my XPS to a DLink DI624 wireless router, via one of the wired ports.

I have tried new cables. Doesn't help.

I seem to recall this being a known issue with the XPS series. Can anyone help?

Thanks, kj
